about our founder
SOSA’s founder, Roo Powell, is an award-winning writer and child advocate. In December 2019, Roo wrote a narrative highlighting the pervasiveness of child predation online. It was viewed more than 7 million times, covered by multiple news outlets, translated into half a dozen languages, and spurred on a conversation about child safety in the modern age.
Prior to working in the child safety space, Roo’s writing and work reflect her advocacy for human rights. She has extensively researched and written about sex abuse, human trafficking, exploitation poverty, race relations, the refugee crisis, and child wellness.
Roo’s work — past and current — has also been covered on multiple outlets, including Nightline, the Wall Street Journal, HLN, Parents Magazine, Sunrise Australia, Good Morning America, and CTV News.
