What We Do / Undercover Operations

Undercover operations, run with law enforcement

SOSA creates believable decoys, communicates with adults contacting minors, and provides your team with organized, court-ready evidence — following your rules of engagement from the first day of the operation.

Undercover operations

Operations run in your county, with your task force

SOSA partners with ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) teams and District Attorney's offices across the U.S. to conduct undercover operations in their counties in order to identify and apprehend highly sophisticated perpetrators of child abuse and trafficking.

What sets us apart

SOSA is not a vigilante group. We don't “expose” suspects online. We don't work any cases without law enforcement approval.

We do strictly follow rules of engagement, understand standards for prosecution, and collect and organize every single piece of evidence.

“When I received the compiled evidence, I was impressed at the way it was collated and organized, and that it was complete and in user-friendly formats.”

“This aspect takes a back seat, however, to the perspective and expertise that Ms. Powell provides when she is called to testify. She has been a consummate professional, and presented well under both direct and cross examination before our judges.”

Legal efficacy

Our field work is structured around your prosecutor’s guidelines to ensure each case is developed in a way that supports successful prosecution.

How it works

From the first meeting with your team through the arrest, five stages — each one run in collaboration with your department and your DA's office.

  1. 01

We plan the operation with your team

We meet with your team to understand your county’s unique needs, share our evidence collection process with your DA’s office, and collaborate on a plan for how we will work together.

  2. 02

    We build believable decoy accounts

In advance of the op, our team creates decoy social media accounts online and builds them out to be believable.

  3. 03

    We travel to your county

Using our nonprofit funding, we rent a house in your county and travel our team there for the length of our undercover operation. We transform the house’s bedrooms to look like realistic teen rooms.

  4. 04

We collect and organize the evidence

We collect every single piece of evidence — messages, images, phone calls, and video calls — regarding perpetrators who break the law with one of our decoys.

  5. 05

    You make the arrest

Once you are satisfied with the charges, we collaborate to schedule a meet so you can safely arrest the perpetrator.

“I highly recommend the SOSA team. The quality and thoroughness of the evidence they provided was exceptional, and their professionalism made them incredibly easy to work with throughout the investigation.

What stood out most was their tenacity and genuine passion for protecting children from online predators. Their team is relentless in identifying and pursuing those who seek to exploit children, and that determination was evident throughout every aspect of their work.

SOSA Undercover is an outstanding team, and I would not hesitate to work with them again or recommend them to other law enforcement agencies.”

Investigator Jake Carey, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Unit

“Partnering with SOSA represents a significant operational advancement for our chat based investigations. The meticulous tradecraft they invest into persona backgrounds and physically staged environments is remarkable. SOSA consistently delivers specialized investigative capabilities and outcomes that conventional units and standard agency budgets simply cannot replicate.”
